Are You Addicted To Selfies Take The Quiz!
Are You Addicted To Selfies Take The Quiz! Tis the season of the selfie. Now more than any other time during the year, there are endless irresistible selfie ops. But when is enough too much? Are you becoming addicted to selfies? Recently, the American Psychiatric Association actually confirmed that taking selfies is a mental disorder, going as far as to term the condition âselfitis.â The APA defines it as: âthe obsessive compulsive desire to take photos of oneâs self and post them on social media as a way to make up for the lack of self-esteem and to fill a gap in intimacy.â Dr. Sanam Hafeez, NYC Clinical Psychologist Dr. Hafeez says that, âselfies may be are an outward expression of a persons existing self-esteem issues or feelings that they are not good enough. Some people who post selfies are seeking attention, positive feedback and social validation. Certain insecurities make them vulnerable and lead them to rely too heavily on the response of others.â Dr. Hafeez says that, âselfies could be toxic for people with a more serious mental illness like body dysmorphia, which in extreme cases can lead to suicide. Somebody with body dysmorphia, no matter how good they look and no matter how many people tell them, they donât hear it, it doesnt matter. A selfie addict does kind of the same thing as they seek to perfect their pictures, getting just the right angle, the pose, the right lighting.â Selfies lead to an increase in plastic surgery. A follow-up study of 2014 data stated that the surge in self-awareness and an increase in requests for aesthetic procedures (especially in the under 30 set) sired by selfies shows no sign of declining. Dr. John Zannis, a New Bern, North Carolina board certified plastic surgeon explains that the selfie craze can propel people toward plastic surgery because, âthe nose looks bigger in close-ups. All selfies are close-ups, so people immediately notice their nose. As a plastic surgeon, Dr. Zannis spends time talking with patients to ascertain if their aesthetic concerns are real or imagined. The patients who are spurred to plastic surgery by selfies will often point out their flaws in each selfie, which raises a red flag for Dr. Zannis. Sometimes Dr. Zannis will refuse to perform surgery on a patient with excessive selfies if he believes it is not a real image of what they actually look like in person. Dr. Hafeez suggests keeping a selfie journal for a week and writing down how youre feeling and what youre doing when you want to take a selfie. This will help you evaluate whether you are overusing selfies to self-medicate bad moods or anxiety, trying to satisfy the need for social connection, or just avoiding getting your work done. Are You Addicted To Selfies? Take the Quiz! Answer Yes or No * Do you often spend more time taking selfies than you meant to? * Would you find it very difficult to make it through a day without taking a selfie? * Do you spend a lot of time thinking about selfies or planning how you will take selfies? * Do you feel an urge to take selfies more and more? * Are you taking and posting selfies in order to forget about or avoid doing other things? * Have you tried to cut down on the amount of selfies you take without success? * When you post a new selfie, are you very disappointed if no one comments on it? * Do you take selfies so much that it has had a negative impact on your relationships, job or studies? * Do you imagine everything you do as a selfie? * Does posting selfies makes you feel more important? If you answer yes to 2- 4: Its time to step back and evaluate your use of selfies. If you answered yes to over 4: Its no longer about selfies. Overuse of selfies (or any form of social media) may mean you are using short-term gratification at the expense of more important goals. Your complaints about other people tell you what you need to change in you
Your complaints about other people tell you what you need to change in you My husband and I are driving to cello lessons in Madison, because my son is going to a new teacher, Uri Vardi. Usually Carla would drive, because I dont drive, and if my husband drives all the time then he will, effectively, be my driver. So I can either pay a lot of money for a driver or a lot of money for a divorce. My husband will ditch lesson to play disc golf. Hes training for Amateur Worlds. I am not interested in disc golf but Iâm very interested in telling him how to practice. I didnât start playing volleyball until college, but I could compete with women who played their whole lives because I was better at practicing. I made it to the pro volleyball tour by making plans and executing them while everyone else just played match after match hoping to get better. As a parent supervising practice for cello, violin, and piano, I focus my attention on learning how to practice most efficiently. (Tidbit: Spend more time on scales to learn the instrument the fastest.) I want to tell him it would be like if the kids played songs instead of practicing scales. I donât say any of that to him. But Iâm telling you; itâs not my nature to simply be quiet. We stop at the gas station right before the highway. We stop there all the time, as if we live in a home without food and wait each day for that moment when we can enter the oasis of gas station junk food. My son comes back to the car with a turkey and cheese Lunchables. I tell him heâs throwing out the juice (red dye no. 40) and the cookie (Oreos are banned until the kids can tell me the reason for each ingredient) and the cheese (not only do I have my own definition of junk food, but I also have my own definition of kosher, and the kids can eat turkey thatâs not kosher but they canât eat it with cheese.) I get a Starbucks Vanilla Latte. I was going to tell you that I will never get another one ever because they are empty calories and must be junk food. But just typing the word Starbucks make me want one, and I start wishing I was in another gas station. The kids donât realize this kind of coffee is basically junk food, sort of like no one told kids in the 70s that alcohol was a drug. Adulthood requires such secret privileges. Adulthood is difficult. We pass a guy in a truck on a random farm and my husband waves and I ask Whos that? My husband says, Itâs the guy who tests our soil. He tests our soil? He used to. I donât need him to analyze the soil. I can analyze it myself. Oh, I say, Like no blueberries grow because they need acidic soil? Yeah. What else? Well, he told me I shouldnât plant orchardgrass because itâll clump after a few years. I look at my husband. Is that true? No. He doesnt know what hes talking about. Our has been in the ground for seven years and he couldnt even tell. So what did you say to him? I asked him if he know how long Id had it in the ground. That wasnât nice. You trapped him. Silence. I tell him, This reminds me: My brother is getting coaching so he can deal with his big promotion, and the coach told him donât ask people why. Asking why is aggressive. Silence. You ask the boys why all the time. You shouldnât do that. Silence. Actually most of the questions you ask are aggressive. You donât ask questions to find out information. Okay, he says, Youâre right. Iâm done talking about this. Humph. Itâs not satisfying to hear that Iâm right. I need it to be more heartfelt. We drive. I look out the window, listening to 80s music up front and YouTube videos in back. This is how our car always sounds. I have to develop an ability to not hear anything Iâm hearing. He says, âWho are you calling?â âIâm calling someone who wants to talk to me.â I want him to say that he wants to talk to me. But heâs not the lying type. I call Melissa. No answer. I call my brother who does not work in an office. No answer. My other two brothers work in an office. There is no one else for me to call except Peter who works for me full time, so itâs like itâs his job to answer the phone if I call. I never call him, so hes probably thinking that I must be lonely, but I donât want him to know Iâm lonely. So I talk about official business, like whether he learned how to edit photos for my blog. He says he resized some photos from Brittney Wright. A food photographer who organizes food by color. My son pipes up from the back seat: I can do that in Photoshop. How much would you pay me? I tell my son I will pay him $2.50 per photo, and he says, âOh, I didnât really want a job. I just wanted to try one photo to see if I could do it. Can I have $1.25 to buy a gem for my Pokemon?â There is a bad lesson here, I just canât pick it out. I think the lesson is that when you are with your kids, have a friend who you can call so you donât have to hear how your kids do not want to work for money. I am still not talking to my husband as he drops us off at the cello lesson. He is excited for disc golf and has forgotten that I am in a fight with him. I gave up on the silent treatment early in our relationship when, after a week of silent treatment, he called my assistant to tell her that sheâs really done a great job of helping us and weâre getting along better than ever. Why donât I have something like disc golf that makes me not care if weâre not talking? And why do I ask myself why? Its aggressive. I need to treat myself better. I need to practice being good at marriage. I remember when I went to graduate school for writing and all I wrote about was my sex life, and the professor told the class we write about what we we yearn for. Which means I am yearning for more conflict. I cannot get it from my husband. And I donât even have a friend I can call to say, âI just called to say hi and engage in conflict.â Practicing being good at marriage is really just practicing being a reasonable, rational adult. Taking personal responsibility means giving up the joys of passive-aggressive behavior. It occurs to me that the reason people donât practice is not because they donât know the best way to practice. Itâs because practicing sucks. Its not the fun part. I want to practice reading lots of comments on a blog post. I want to practice something that depends on someone else doing the work.

6 Quick Makeup Tips For Working Women - Classy Career Girl
6 Quick Makeup Tips For Working Women How much time do you need every day to do you makeup? 30, 40, 50 minutes or more? Todayâs modern women are perfectionists. They want to look their best 24/7 and not have to fix mistakes every couple of minutes. Sadly, very few women have time to spare in the morning. The good news is that you can do a complete face of makeup in as little as 5 minutes. 6 Quick Makeup Tips For Working Women 1. Cleanse Moisturize in The Evening A lot of women donât remove their makeup when they get home. Some even sleep with their make-up on. This mistake will cost you a lot the next day when your skin is filled with zits, cracks, and imperfections. Youâll end up spending a lot of time on applying foundation, and you certainly wonât have any time left for your hair. But if you clean your face thoroughly at night and you moisturize, your face will look incredible the next day. Just apply a BB cream, blush and mascara, and youâre good to go. 2. Care For Your Eyebrows You might think that just because you have well-defined lips and big eyes nobody will notice skinny eyebrows. Wrong! The whole dynamics of your face depends on your eyebrows. And if youâre used to plucking them all the time, youâll never have properly balanced facial features. Some women look gorgeous without any make-up. Often, they have beautiful, natural eyebrows to compensate for the lack of definition. 3. Cheekbone Contouring If you want your face to look amazing in as little as 5 minutes, all you need to do is contour your cheeks. Use a darker brown on the upper cheeks, right on the bone line, and then a lighter shade above the bone line. For more impact, use a shimmery illuminator. Thatâs all you need for beautiful cheeks, and it takes less than 5 minutes to do. [RELATED: 9 Ways to Avoid Looking Tired at Work] 4. Matte Lipstick If you donât have time for elaborate makeup, you can just use mascara for your eyes and lipstick in striking deep nuances. Dark red and burgundy in a matte color are the best. Youâll have full, luscious lips that everyone will envy. The main idea behind this simple makeup is to add a touch of glam to your face without exaggerating. Keep your eyes all natural and focus on your lips for striking makeup that can be completed in less than 5 minutes. 5. Use the Right Brushes Some women use a single make-up brush for everything when doing their makeup. This takes up a lot of unnecessary time if youre cleaning the same brush you used for your foundation in order to use blush. The same thing goes for eye shadow. If you want to be able to do your makeup fast and efficiently, you should invest in a set of beauty brushes. You need at least 5. Make sure theyâre qualitative so that blending can be done smoothly. 6. Invest in Organic Beauty Products Whether weâre talking about foundation, makeup base, eye shadow or lipstick, itâs really important to ditch the drugstore products and switch to organics so that you can have a beautiful, youthful complexion all the time. Unlike most products marketed by top brands, organic cosmetics donât contain any chemicals or parabens (and they dont test on animals!). Theyâre excellent for all types of skins, and theyâre meant to protect your face regardless of the season. Many contain essential vitamins that feed the skin with nourishing ingredients that preserve your complexionâs elasticity and vitality. A lot of women today donât have time to do their makeup. However, looking and feeling great doesnât have to take more than 5 minutes. And weâre sure you have 5 minutes in the morning to prepare your skin. All you need is a good quality foundation thatâs light but creamy, mascara, blush, and an illuminator. Lipstick is optional. If you want your complexion to look fresh and vivid in the morning, you have to take good care of it at night. Use a moisturizer, and apply a mask every week to restore skin cells and eradicate impurities.

Brand Yourself As an Expert Huh - Executive Career Brandâ¢
Brand Yourself As an Expert Huh Wait a minute. What if youâre not an expert? Many of us are talented in various ways, and very good at doing some things, but weâre not experts. We toss around the word expert a little too easily. I call other people experts and Iâve been called an expert, but I donât call myself one. I donât think there are nearly as many true experts as people who claim to be, or who are labeled as such. Yet so-called personal branding experts often tell us that in order to truly brand ourselves, weâve got to brand ourselves as experts at something. I Googled the phrase brand yourself as an expert â" in quotes so Iâd only get results on that specific phrase â" and came up with more than 350,000 results. Thatâs a lot of people handing out misguided advice. So if youâre NOT an expert at anything, does that mean you canât brand yourself? Well of course not. Branding is about defining the value you offer the people youâre trying to influence. And it comes from differentiating what you have to offer over others offering similar value. In job search, you need to identify and target employers who are a good mutual fit . . . those who need your unique combination of qualifications, skills and personal traits. You may not be an expert at any one thing, but youre probably really, really good at doing a few things that will help your target employers meet their current challenges. Branding is also about being authentic. Donât put yourself out there as an expert if youâre not one. Tell it like it is. College Grads Need Your Help
College Grads Need Your Help Actually, they needed your help before they got their cap and gown. But perhaps not the kind of help you think. They need mentors (and that isnt you) You cant be your childs best friend or mentor. You could help them find a mentor, but dont do it for them. Ask them who they would like to meet, or what industry or occupation they might be interested in. You can provide the introduction. They need to understand how to make small talk We all could use a little help in this area, but what does a 20-something have in common with a 40-something? Probably more than you would think. Encourage them to attend multi-generational events. Teach them manners If you missed this opportunity before, now is a great time to teach them how to write Thank You notes and letters. Dont assume they know, because they dont! Encourage personal and professional development The soft skills generally arent taught in schools. Have them do some reading on the topic. Encourage them to be life-long learners. Review Employment Etiquette They will be expected to show up on time and ready to go. They need to dress appropriately. They need to understand that a college degree doesnt qualify them to be a CEOyet. The World of Work has Changed When you looked for your last job, things were different. Before you go giving them job search advice, you better make sure you know the new rules. There are some great resources out there for them and here are just a few: YouTern Heather Huhman Careerealism
